Valorisation
Valorisation is a key component of the Netherlands Genomics Initiative (NGI) programme. According to NGI terms, valorisation is determined by:
- trained researchers
- technological infrastructure
- societal research
- communication with the general public
- economic activity
NPC Valorisation
The Netherlands
Proteomics Centre (NPC) evidently strengthens the infrastructure for the
(economic) valorisation of proteomics in the Netherlands. We achieve our
valorisation goals through a number of activities. One of them is training young
(inter)national researchers. Well-trained researchers are in high demand for
jobs in industry and other academia. Another goal is to provide open access to
the technological infrastructure through the Research
Hotels.
The economic activity associated to the NPC is warranted by
an active policy in:
- supporting patenting & licensing
- collaboration with industry
- collaboration with start-up companies
The NPC has an excellent track record in valorisation. This is proven by numerous training activities, open access to technical expertise and infrastructure, and the numbers of patents, licenses and spin-offs.

Utilisation Aim
The NPC’s utilisation aim is to promote valorisation and transfer of knowledge, to add economic value to society and to provide access to high-quality technological infrastructure and high -level training for PhD students and research professionals.
To achieve this aim, the NPC:
- Establishes an active and easily accessible valorisation network to connect the NPC scientists with professionals in business development and entrepreneurship.
- Provides seed funding to explore the feasibility and economic potential of innovative technologies and their applications.
- Stimulates IP protection, business development and collaboration with industrial partners.
- Provides access to high-quality technological infrastructure and high-level trainings in the NPC Research Hotels.
Close Connection
between NPC and NGI centres
NPC is one of the NGI technology centres. It has a special role to provide transfer of knowledge to other NGI centres. Therefore, the NPC is strongly connected to the NGI Centres. There are many bilateral collaborations with research groups from these centres. Next to the existing links, other interesting scientific opportunities for collaborations with NGI centres may appear. These can be addressed via the flexible concept of the NPC Research Hotels at any time. In this way, the NPC also contributes to the valorisation outcomes of collaborating NGI centres.
