NPC Research Hotels

NPC Research Hotels

Research Hotels are an initiative of the Netherlands Proteomics Centre (NPC).

From 2009-2013 the NPC had eight proteomics Research Hotels:

  • Five Analytical Hotels: Utrecht University, Delft University of Technology, University of Groningen, Erasmus Medical Centre Rotterdam, Wageningen University
  • Bioinformatics hotel:Utrecht University
  • Cell Culture Hotel: University Medical Centre Utrecht
  • Cell Sorting Hotel: Utrecht University

The NPC Research Hotels featured high-level proteomics technologies and facilities for trainings and joint projects with researchers from within the NPC, from other NGI centres or with external scientists. Ideally, a research hotel project combined proteomics techniques with high-level research approaches from other academic or industrial labs. Subjects of interest could be addressed in collaboration with experienced personnel in the NPC. The NPC Research Hotels have proven to be very successful means for technology transfer, valorisation and training of research professionals.

From 2014 the programme Proteins At Work provides access at four facilities:

Utrecht University
The facility in Utrecht, an expert centre for state-of-the-art proteomics analysis, will develop and implement innovative mass spectrometric methods for efficient and detailed characterisation of biomolecules in relation to their biological function. Scientific focus ranges from single protein identifications to the analysis of complex, whole-cell lysate, samples and determination of posttranslational modifications.

Erasmus Medical Centre Rotterdam
The facility will be embedded within the Erasmus MC Proteomics Center (part of the Department of Biochemistry). It offers proteomic and mass spectrometric services for the Dutch academic research community. All projects will be on a collaborative basis. Researchers can consult the experienced staff on study design and data interpretation. The facility also develops proteomics methodologies based on mass spectrometry and protein separation techniques for qualitative and quantitative analysis of (sub)proteomes. In addition, it will provide mass spectrometry and proteomics services for the local scientific community as well as for external researchers.

University Medical Centre Utrecht
The facility in UMC Utrecht will provide state-of-the-art proteomics methods to aid fundamental, translational and clinical research into proteins, protein modifications and biomarkers relevant for health and disease.

Netherlands Cancer Institute
The facility at the Dutch Cancer Institute will house two high-resolution LC-MS setups, optimized for biomolecular analysis. Main focus of the facility is state-of-the-art proteomics research on a wide range of cancer related biological processes. Scientific focus ranges from single protein identifications, protein-protein interaction networks and the analysis of complex, whole-cell lysate samples, as well as the determination of post-translational modifications.
