Enabling Technologies

A range of proteomics and bioinformatics projects constitute the NPC Enabling Technologies Programme. Focus is on the development of proteomics and bioinformatics tools at the cutting edge of proteomics research. The following proteomics and bioinformatics projects are part of the NPC research programme.

NPC E1: New Separation and Enrichment Tools in Proteomics

This theme further improves existing enabling technologies and develops new strategies for high throughput proteomics. It concentrates on performance enhancement, new separation/enrichment technologies and implementation of chip based methodologies.

NPC E2: Chemical Approaches to Proteome Biology

This theme brings organic chemistry and/or analytical chemistry techniques to proteome studies. They are developed and applied to enable the specific detection and/or modification or proteomes and sub proteomes. This theme brings together a mix of chemical biology approaches that revolve around three specific sub proteomes, namely kinases, phosphatases and proteasomes.

NPC E3: New Mass Spectrometric Tools in Proteomics

Mass spectrometry is rapidly maturing as a powerful tool for proteomics applications. New sample preparation approaches, instrumentation developments and bioinformatics tools for analysing data become increasingly available. This study aims to make progress beyond the standard mass spectrometry based analysis and further widen the scope of mass-spectrometry-based analysis in proteomics.

NPC E4: Bioinformatics in Proteomics

This theme concentrates on proteomics-driven bioinformatics. It further develops the necessary infrastructure for storage, processing, analysis and visualisation of proteomics data. Furthermore, it focusses on targeted bioinformatics that address specific needs in the cutting edge research areas within the NPC.
