Introduction
A key component of the NGI program is focused on valorisation, which according to NGI is expressed in terms of trained researchers, technological infrastructure, societal research, communication with the general public and economic activity. NPC evidently strengthens the infrastructure for the (economic) valorisation of proteomics in the Netherlands through a number of activities, such as the training of young national and (inter)national researchers, which are in high demand for jobs in industry and other academia, the open access to the technological infrastructure provided by the Research Hotels. The economic activity associated to the NPC is warranted by an active policy in supporting patenting & licensing, collaborations with industry and start-up companies. The NPC has an excellent track-record in valorisation, in training activities, providing technical expertise and infrastructure and in the numbers of patents, licenses and spin-offs.

Aim and ambition
The utilisation aim of the NPC is to promote valorisation and knowledge transfer, to add economic value to society and to provide access to high-quality technological infrastructure and high level trainings for PhD students and research professionals.

To achieve this aim, the NPC will:
  • Establish an active and easily accessible valorisation network to connect the NPC scientists with professionals in business development and entrepreneurship.
  • Provide seed-funding to explore the feasibility and economic potential of innovative technologies and their applications.
  • Stimulate IP protection, business development and collaboration with industrial partners.
  • Provide access to high-quality technological infrastructure and high-level trainings in the NPC research hotels.

The NPC, as one of the NGI technology centres, has a special role to provide knowledge transfer to other NGI centres. Therefore, the NPC is strongly intertwined with the NGI Centres and has many bilateral collaborations with research groups from these centres. During the course of the NGI programme, other interesting scientific opportunities for collaborations with NGI centres may appear which can at any time be addressed via the flexible concept of the NPC research hotels. In this way, the NPC also contributes to the valorisation outcomes of the collaborating NGI centres.
