NPC Hotel General Guidelines
Project submission and selection
Project proposals are set up in collaboration between the visiting group and the Research Hotel manager. The Research Hotel manager submits completed 'project planning' forms and for finished projects a 'project report' to the NPC Executive Board (please see 'Research Hotels' for formats). All projects have to be approved by the NPC Executive Board.
Proposals will be selected on:
- scientific quality
- fit within the goals of the NPC
- fit within the expertise of the respective NPC Hotel
- feasibility within the indicated project time
- quality of the visiting group
Finances
Project costs will be calculated differently for the following collaborations:
Visiting groups being part of:
- the NPC or other NGI Centers of Excellence, (for Utrecht Hotel only: UU-ABC): consumables only, no overhead
- public research institutes: consumables, NPC personnel and equipment, no overhead
- industry: consumables, NPC personnel, equipment and overhead
A standard bench fee is accounted of 1500 Euro/month. For commercial partners, activities of the NPC Research Hotel are charged with an overhead of 50%.
All financial transactions between the visiting group and the NPC Hotel are under responsibility of the local Hotel. Possible losses or benefits are at risk for the institute hosting the NPC Hotel. Benefits have to be invested in the Hotel, for e.g. maintenance and new developments.
Responsibilities, IP and publications
- NPC Hotel visitors are guests of the institute hosting the NPC Hotel. At any time, visitors are subject to the local regulations.
- For external visitors: intellectual property can be applied for and handled according to the existing regulations of the institutes hosting the NPC Hotel.
- For visitors from other parts of the NPC or any other initiatives financed by Bsik: transfer of IP and licensing is possible under conditions of the NGI regulations.

The NPC research hotel will perform the research to the best of its ability. It does not guarantee the usefulness of the results obtained, nor the consequences of the application thereof. The principal indemnifies the NPC research hotel against all claims by third parties in relation to the results of the research.
