PDF Print E-mail

Deadline for submission: 2 March 2010, 15:00 hrs

The Life Sciences Pre-Seed Grant offers a great opportunity for researchers associated with a Dutch university or research institution. Worth up to € 250,000, the Pre-Seed Grant offers superb prospects for those involved in applied research and who are looking to exploit their fundamental research commercially by starting up a new business.

Start tomorrow’s company today!

The overall aim of the grant is to support you as potential starter in your first steps towards applying your knowledge commercially, or in other words, setting up a company. In the past, the Pre-Seed Grant was only available to those in the field of genomics. Now, anyone involved in Life Sciences (subject to certain criteria) can apply.

Alongside the main financier, the Netherlands Genomics Initiative, the grant now also includes financing and support from Life Sciences and Health Innovation Program (LSH) and ZonMw (The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development).

Subsidy sums

Per grant there is a maximum of € 250.000 available. The selection committee may advise against providing the full sum if they are insufficiently convinced that the project is technically or economically feasible. Applicants may yet be awarded a 'first-phase' grant, however.

Criteria

Applications for a grant will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Chances for market introduction and economic viability of the product
  • The strategy concerning the actual start-up of a company
  • Scientific quality and technological feasibility
  • Entrepreneurial qualities of the researcher/project team.

ZonMw administers the Life Sciences Pre-Seed Grant programme that will run for five years. With a total budget of at least 10.4 M€, the Life Sciences Pre-Seed Grant allows for a large number of projects that will further increase the value of genomics for society.
